Dubai World Expo 2020: How the City is Preparing for Year 2020

Determined to make the World Expo 2020 a spectacular and one-of-a-kind event, Dubai is making steady moves towards realizing its dream. The first step towards this direction is the government’s move to christen the ‘city’ being built around the Al Maktoum International Airport as ‘Dubai South’. Meanwhile, the newly created Dubai Creative Clusters Authority is working overnight to transform the city into a global hub for design and fashion by 2020. The authority has been created keeping in mind the need to generate skilled employment and improve the quality of life and living in cities. Besides skills, the authority will look into other key objectives such as ensuring robust and last mile infrastructure; making regulations more business-friendly; encouraging entrepreneurship; creating the right ecosystem for industries; improving organizational effectiveness and developing research and insights.

In so far as business regulations are concerned, the Dubai Creative Clusters Authority will play the all-important role of issuing licenses, and regulate visa and zoning requirements for the numerous free zones which dot the city such as,

• Dubai Media City
• Dubai Knowledge Village
• International Media Production Zone
• Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech)
• Dubai International Academic City
• Dubai Design District
• Energy and Environment Park

Further, the authority will be investing Dirham 40 million every year to boost the working of bodies such as Dubai Film and TV Commission, Dubai International Film Festival, and Dubai Design & Fashion Council.

The Al Maktoum International Airport is also being revamped, and come 2020 the airport’s passenger and cargo handling capacity will increase to 220 million and 16 million tons respectively.

Once completed, Dubai South will represent the thriving living and commerce side of the city. It’s in keeping with this vision that the logo comprises a mixture of green and blue.
