UAE Plans to Improve Federal Education Sector

The UAE cabinet On April 8, 2019, approved the formation of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Schools Establishment aiming and supporting the objectives of enhancing the efficiency of the federal.

The approval for The Emirates Schools Establishment was executed under the chairmanship of Jameela Al Muheiri, Minister of State for Public Education.

The Board

The said independent board consists of members which include, Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, Dr Najla Al Midfa, General Manager of Sharjah Entrepreneurship and Raja Easa Al Gurg, Managing Director of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group,

Other than these, it also includes the following; the Assistant Undersecretary for Knowledge and Cultural Policies at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, the Director of the Higher Colleges of Technology Complex, a representative of the Ministry of Community Development and a representative of the Federal Youth Authority.

The aim of the emirates school establishment is to enhance the learning environment with the help of an integrated educational system that contributes to the advancement of education". The board shall also be focusing on proposing various programmes in public schools in the UAE. The board was established to manage and operate public schools as an independent entity. Its mission is to advance the education sector with the UAE objectives.it will be implementing various policies regulations and standards related to the education sector in UAE.

The Formation of the Emirates School Establishment board has the following objectives,

• Advancing the federal government education sector.
• Encouraging studies and research on education development.
• Develop strategies and plans for education and student care programs.
• Manage and establish schools, kindergartens, vocational and technical institutes.

The attainment levels under the education sector have taken significant leap since the country's inception.  The main component under the strategy has been the decentralization of education authority from the Federal Ministry of Education.

UAE has three main bodies who work for the development of education sector these are,

1. The Ministry of Education
2. The Abu Dhabi Education Council(ADEC)
3. Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority(KHDA)

Education and Women in UAE

UAE has been ranked on top in relation to gender equality. Equality in Education, as well as literacy, has been one of the top objectives of the UAE. In UAE the literacy rate of women is 95.8%. According to the report by the World Economic Forum, the UAE has more women enrolled in higher education than men. They in total makeup about 70% of all university graduates and approx. 46% of graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are Women.

Other than the approval of the emirates school establishment, there have been many reforms in the education sector of the UAE. The UAE’s highest priorities have always been Education. Many new initiatives have been launched every year at the educational levels these levels include, K-12 programs, Higher Education, Private institutions, global partnership, technical education and special education. The Ministry of Education has been continuously moving forward in radically changing educational frameworks and following the modern education policy. The ministry aims at highlighting the need for continuous lifelong learning and achieving sustainable education by ensuring to follow the best educational practises. The establishment of the board will surely be going to be beneficial in most of the areas. The board will be implementing reforms in such areas that are lagging behind.
